Auburn was the home of William Seward of the purchase of Alaska fame. Visit the home of Abner Doubleday, creator of baseball at 33 South St. The assassin of U.S. President William McKinley, Leon Czolgosz, was executed at nearby Auburn Prison. That's a bit gruesome. Nice views of Owasco Lake in these parts though.
