The British Crown formally created Hurley in 1708. But the emigrants from Kingston had been living in the oldest section - New Dorp - since 1661. One of the original 5 towns making up Ulster County. The oldest parts of some of the stone houses date from the early 1700's, part of Hurley's Historic District (National Register of Historic Places)
