The Court was audited by the State between 2002 and 2004. The results showed \"material weakness\" in its finances. Now the internal affairs of the Court are running a tight ship, and this has carried over to the day-to-day conduct on the streets, both by citizens and authorities. Punishments follow the book, so don`t test the waters in this area, not even if you want to have a few beers while boating on the river. Recently (this entry from 6/2007), District Justice Joseph Dalfonso set a $25,000 bond (straight cash) for a relative and a $50,000 bond for the other perp, both involved in drug-related charges of a lesser degree. |
| About the area |
The Court covers the city of Monessen, which is located inside a prominent bend in the Monongahela River referred to as “Mon Valley.” Interstate 70 lies just below, with Route 43 to the west and Route 906 within the city. The population drops nearly a 1,000 during the day due to commuting, which means about 1/8 of Monessen engages in rush hour traffic, mostly towards and from Pittsburgh. The city also averages about 20 auto thefts a year, so lock those car doors! |
