Yakima serves as the county seat of Yakima county. The discovery of the area by the Lewis and Clark Expedition brought it to the attention of people eager to settle in a fertile place.There are plenty of recreational sites in Yakima. Thirty-one parks are located within the city taking up an area 0f 309 acres. In these parks there are four large out-door swimming pools, one large indoor pool, complete picnic facilities, one public and two private 18-hole golf courses, two nine-hole courses and 36 public tennis courts. Yakima is good for business with over 250 manufacturing firms located in the area. They produce everything from farm implements, wood products, packaging, plastic products, clothing, aircraft parts, to recreational vehicles.
