This capital city of West Virginia has over 51,000 residents. Haddad Riverfront Park is the place to go either in the day time or evening. This park on the banks of the Kanawha river, with its barges and boating platforms also has a stage which is the scene of performances throughout the Summer months. There are lights on the fins of the paddlewheel-like structure around the stage, which are programmable to change colors and make it appear as if the blades move, a fantastic sight. The shops and eating and drinking places along the park offer many choices to the visitor. The Fourth of July celebration with fireworks which takes place here is spectacular. There are also canopies in the park when you want some shade and an overlook at the foot of Court Street.
