About the area

East Bank lies on a curve of the Kanawha river. It was also known as Hampton and Pryor before it became East Bank because of its location East of a coal bank, a natural outcropping of coal from a hillside from which early settlers extracted coal. Calvert field is the scene of Middle school and high school football games and where many of the city's residents come to root for their team as their sports activity. If you are a college or pro basketball fan you have heard of Jerry West who played his high school games here.
