| About the area |
The Town of Hancock is on the Pennsylvania border. State Highway 17 carries quite a bit of traffic through the town. "Honest" Eddie Murphy was born in Hancock on October 2, 1891. He played baseball for Philadelphia Athletics, the White Sox, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1918 his batting average was close to Babe Ruth's as he was a very accomplished baseball player. The baseball bats made to play the game were built in Hancock from the many timber forests the town has. Pine, oak, cedar, ash and cherry were just some of the trees that were cut down for all types of furniture and products.
