Settled in 1791, changed name from "Fredericksburg" to "Wayne" in honor of Gen "Mad Anthony" Wayne; the area is especially suited to growing fruit, & supports some of the finest vinyards in the county; Hoagy Carmichael played for 2 seasons at the Keuka Hotel (built 1895) - legend says he wrote "Stardust" while staying there. Located along the shores of Lake Waneta & Keuka Lake; NYS 54 & 230 pass through town.
