You can say the earliest settlement in Lumberport occurred before a blockhouse built around 1775 to guard against Indian attacks. It was established around 1770 when a Major in the U.S. Army bought about 3000 acres of land from the Indians. Its present day population of just over 850 has to travel to nearby towns for entertainment. |
