The settlement of the town was commenced towards the close of the 18th century. The town is located north of the City of Norwich. The pioneers of this territory were Joseph Lathrop and Amos Mead Jr.; they came to settled town at the village. The Chenango River is the key of the community beginnings and it flows southward through the town and all over the valley.
