| About the area |
Oxford has historically been a transportation hub. The Catskill and Ithaca Turnpicke (1798) was an important route for settlers and agricultural transportation. The Chenango Canal (1837-78) enabled local industry to ship their products all over New York State. Two Railroads (Utica, Chenango and Susquehanna and Ontario and Western) ran North-South and East-West through the Village.
They named a college in England after this little place. Can ya believe it?
