| About the area |
Where the valley meets the hills in the Seneca language, Nunda includes the communities of Guys Corners, Seetcake Hollow, Coopersville & Barkertown. After the canal & railroad declined, the Union Block (now in both the National & State Registers of Historical Places) was built to draw business, including the Post Office, a dry goods department store, grocery store & the Nunda News, published every week without interruption from 1859-1982. The Foote Manufacturing Co, the most famous industry here, received recognition for its power concrete mixers at the 1913 San Francisco Expo, in 1926 from the American Institute, & in 1943 from the US War Dept, for building runways. The lovely Letchworth State Park is also nearby.
