The town of Deerfield is a farm town where many people make a living through farm work or by commuting to jobs outside the area. There are some businesses and restaurants in the downtown area. Population of Deerfield is a little over 4,000 people. There is a good school system and churches nearby. Rivers connecting to the Erie canal can be viewed here and many people come to fish in the area. Also, good hunting grounds for deer and birds. Utica is just to the south (southwest) of the town. Routes 12 and 8 come north from the city - and the Thruway exit - and are the source for most of the traffic cases in the town court here.
