This Borough is home to Camp Merritt, a camp from where American Soldiers were sent to war during WWI. There is a monument in the Center of the Camp in memory of all those soldiers who gave their lives for their country. The Camp Merritt Historical Society is perhaps one of the very best in the state of NJ. It showcases the history of this borough not just as a chronology of events, but as a story of the people who lived then. The museum's collection has many cataloged artifacts and photographs. It is also a Preservation Society. Many of the houses built in early 1700s are still in pristine condition, thanks to the Preservation Society. There is a bus tour to all these wonderful places. Another unusual club that needs mention is the Garden Club ! The members of this club painstakingly plant dogwood trees, tulip bulbs and other flowering plants to beautify the town. They install sprinklers near the town buildings and plant colorful flowers at every possible nook and corner !
