| About the area |
The Village of Solvay is located in the Town of Geddes, just behind the New York State Fairgrounds and immediately west of Syracuse. The village population is approximately 7,000. According to local historians, the village was formed when Ernest and Alfred Solvay began a plant called Solvay Process to process soda ash. The village then grew around the plant, and was eventually named after the brothers.
